Day one
Welcome to the gang Dave
I didn't really know where to start when I got here. I think a visit to the Dr is a sensible idea. Detox can sometimes be rough for some of us.
Otherwise - take it a day at a time. Have you got any thoughts yourself on your plan of action yet?
If not, sit back, relax, do some reading, and some posting
Good to have you here

Welcome to the family Dave! I agree with seeing your doctor for medical help and/or supervision for the first week or so of withdrawal as it can be rough. Other than that, drink lots of fluids and eat 'easy' food. Vitamins, especially B vitamins, can help your recovery in the early days. Rest as much as you can since sleeping can be difficult in those early days/weeks.
I'm glad you found us. You'll find a lot of support and useful information here.

Its my first day, too and I don't know what to do, either. I am scared and feel insolated. I work in a restaurant and after working 13 hours today I didnt want to leave because I felt I had no place to go since I wasn't going to a bar. I came home and a friend told me about this site and here I am. Good luck to us.
Welcome, Dave - congratulations on making a decision to get sober. This forum has helped me so much and I hope you'll use it a lot, too.
I found that the more I said "no" to that first drink, the easier it got. Still, there are times when you just have to get through the urge. I wouldn't have believed it 6 months ago, but I rarely get that compulsion anymore.
