Ibuprofen and alcohol withdrawal...

Hi all,

So I have been off alcohol for several months now (cold turkey), and was taking Ibuprofen off and on to deal with the aches and pains.

Now I have stopped Ibuprofen completely, and the aches/pains have returned with a vengeance (for around a week now), but I am not sure if this relates to the alcohol withdrawal or to the Ibuprofen itself?

Has anyone found Ibuprofen to be addictive, or has anyone has withdawal symptoms after stoping taking it after semi-prolonged use? (in my case, several months of moderate use)

Thanks for your time!

Hi Garp

I took ibuprofen for a long time - I stopped it recently and did not have anything like you are experiencing.

I think that's a question for your Dr. really.

Thanks Dee74,

It's good to hear the experiences of others. I just went to my doctor, and he didn't seem concerned at all. It may be the alcohol symptoms returning again if Ibuprofen is tame enough.

Indeed, that's not a question for amateurs really, but I am not aware of anything that causes dependence in ipubrophen. And that's a fair amount of time for withdrawal symptoms to to linger.

This'd be the time to schedule an appointment.

Garp I have the same thoughts as others on this one. I would see if your Dr. could give you a full work up to see exactly what may be the cause of aches and pains. Sometimes our drinking masks other health issues which come about once we are sober.

As far as sobriety goes....well after those initial horrible days and then the fatigue, insomnia and general lack of energy in the following weeks.....well I was pretty much good to go.

Let us know how you make out.
