16 months!
16 months!
Today marks sixteen months since I decided to put down the beer for good.
For those who don't know, I was a 2-3 times a week binge drinker from the age of 14 to 34 (20 years) and a daily drinker (12-18 beers per day EVERY day) for the 10 years after that. It finally progressed to the point where I had to check into the emergency room with severe dehydration and panic attacks.
When I was younger I was a very happy, outgoing and optimistic person. All of those years of drinking turned me into a bitter, reclusive, negative and paranoid shell of a human being. Over these past months of sobriety I've slowly but surely rediscovered that happy, outgoing and optimistic person that was really there all along. I can't properly put into words the freedom and joy I feel for life these days.
I struggled for those first 20 years and just sorta gave up for the next 10. My point is, as long as you're still breathing, it's NEVER too late to turn your life around. I'm living proof it can be done.

Wow, I can so relate. I found that to be true about myself as well.

Congrats and well done! 16 months is fantastic. I'm sure the feeling is wonderful.
Your story sounds exactly like mine, except the time frame in my case is a bit shorter. 13 years overall, but like you, I struggled for the first 10 or so and just gave up for the final 3. Now instead of giving up, I've given in, and it's made all the difference.
Thanks for being here and for helping each and every one of us. Keep it up!
