Uh oh

So a few minutes ago I went upstairs to put towels and linens away after laundry. I go into the spare bedroom closet where I keep everything and figured it was a good time to bring out the flannel sheets to change over to since its been getting cold at night. I pull out the winter comforter set and underneath it was a box of wine. A FULL box of wine. Dammit.

For a fleeting moment I said to myself..I can have a bit today..and be sober by the time my husband gets home..its a nice day..one glass of wine will help me get my editing done and relax.

WHY do I do that?I have that inner conversation with my sick side justifying that it would make my day better...I know it wont.

I took that box downstairs, opened it and stuck a knife in the wine bag and let it drain down the sink. I didn't watch it..I let it drain and went back upstairs and finished what I was doing..

The whole time though I thought about that wine..that damn box of wine and how much money I wasted.

Then I realized if I had given in..I would've wasted the past 8 days of sobriety and feeling better about myself.

I keep telling myself i'm worth it...and maybe one day ..with time I will actually believe that..i'm not there yet..but i'm trying.

I'm just afraid of what other goodies I have stashed that I haven't found..I need a sweep team to come through my house with a wine sniffing dog lol

Anyways...made more coffee and i'm just gonna keep on keepin' on..

hahaha, a wine sniffing dog, lol.

I was cleaning my shed a few days ago and found a six pack of beer I had stashed there, ended up giving it to a neighbor I don't like, lol. Then, I opened one of my coolers that I had used over the summer and there were a couple of beers I'd forgotten about. I actually thought, hell, I'll never get away from it, so I might as well drink it, lol. Nope, I opened them up and poured them on the ground. It felt great!!

Way to go on dumping that stuff, that's a biggy!!

And you know...I bought those damn boxes of wine because it was a bix honkin box..I wouldnt have to keep popping corks..I could just fill'er up..as if it was classier or something.

Nope it was because of the volume and it had a cute spigot (ugh)

I am dreading going through closets and drawers..I think for the rest of today I will not enter anymore closets. Just in case. One encounter was enough.

thanks guys

I love the symbolism of sticking a knife in the bag of wine...think of it as healthy sober you killing the evil wine monster that wants to destroy you.

Well done!

I'm very proud of you for sticking it to the wine! coffee and candle sounds nice. Just heard a song lyric that said, another drink won't make us free. Completely random, but completely true!

I get a mental image of you 'killing' that wine, making it 'suffer' so you won't suffer from it.

You know, i'm still struggling this afternoon..I hate the daytime..isn't that weird? night time is never an issue for me..daytime is a killer! lol.

I'm working away, ingesting more coffee than I ever have..but thats ok and reading and chatting here..it keeps me sane.

I understand now peope who say that the first week is easier...past day has been miserable..but as much as I like my wine..i'm one stubborn broad so i'm listening to my logical brain and allowing myself to feel this way..but not allowing that illogical brain to make me act on it..

ahhhhh...serenity now...serenity now..

Good work Duggy
Having 'killed' a box of wine myself once, I know the satisfaction involved

Duggy, that's wonderful how you passed the test. I doubt I'd have been that strong early on. You're doing this thing right. The days will get easier as you go along, promise. You have a great attitude and sense of humor, that's half the battle.
