Hello

I've been sober for 22 days and found this site because I was looking for some support. I've been attending a day recovery group that has been helping me a lot.

At first, I was quite hesitant because I'm the youngest in the group and hadn't experience a lot of what the others in the group had (dui's, losing their children, jail etc). However I realized we are all there for the same reason and I know that if I keep on boozing, it will definitely progress.

I used to be a weekend warrior ,which has made the weekends harder for me, but I keep on reading the material that was given to me and have come to the realization that alcohol has caused me nothing but harm. I also have been benefiting tremendously from daily exercise and positive coping skills, other than the bottle. I haven't quite gotten the support part down, because I tend to like to isolate, but I'm working on that, because I know it will hinder my recovery.

Another wake up call for me is my father passed away from alcoholism in July and it hurt me to think I was on the very same path.
For now I'm taking it one day at a time and focusing on myself, which I've neglected for a quite a while.

I usually lurk forums, but I am going to make an effort to post, because I know sharing my experiences can help others. It will also help me with the support part of my recovery because at this point I don't feel comfortable to reaching out to others in the group.
Thanks everyone for just being here!

((Evon)) - Welcome to SR!!! So sorry to hear about your dad. Congratulations on 22 days!

I tend to isolate, too, at times, but SR has become like a family and it's great to be able to come here, 24/7, and always find someone "home" to talk to.

Hugs and prayers,

Amy

Thank you, Evon, I'm really glad you've joined SR. Very sorry to hear about your dad...

You have all the incentive in the world to recover from this evil illness of the body, mind and spirit. And reaching out and joining in with others is the start of the great journey of recovery from that illness that just wants to isolate us and kill us. It doesn't have to.

All the best and I look forward to seeing you around.

I'm 30 days today and joined yesterday.

Welcome, Evon. As others have said, you'll find a lot of support here. I've only been posting for about 2 mos (that's how long it has been since I found out my daughter had a problem), and I have found everyone to be wonderful and understanding. 22 days is a great start! You're doing fantastic!

One day at a time!

You hear "one day at a time" all the time, but you reach your goal "one minute at a time", in the early stages.

Congratulations on the first day of the rest of your life!
