New....2 weeks today!
Hello all,
I am new here, although I have been lurking around now for a few weeks. Today is my 14th day without a drink. It hasn't been easy, but I feel great about it. I have been reading many of your posts during these two weeks, and it has been a big help to me to share in this with all of you - I felt compelled to register and post to say thanks. Even though we don't know each other, we do share much in common.
A bit about me. I have been drinking for about 15 years now. The last 8 or so have been rough. Mostly beer, but the bottle of bourbon was not far away. When I stopped two weeks ago, I was up to at least a 12 pack a day, more like 18 to 24 beers every day.
My wake up call came with my divorce. Wife of 8 years, two young boys (5 and 3), and that was it. We had stopped communicating - I was drunk most of the time. We tried counseling, but it was too late. She had met someone else....Tough one to go through - but I realized going through it alone, that I had to get sober....if not for my relationship with my kids, for myself. Not to save a marriage that couldn't be saved, but to save myself.
I have been seeing a therapist since the whole thing started, and that has been a huge help. I have yet to go to a meeting - not sure that I will or not. I have a great group of friends and support. I know I can do this. I just want you all to know that you have helped me as well. I felt like I had to at least say hi and let you know that your conversations here have helped me, and I hope that they continue to....thanks.....On to day 15.

Welcome Aboard Mate!
Congrats on the two weeks, that's a great gift to give your boys!!
Hope you stick around and find the support you need when things get tough, like when your 5yr old tackles your butt in the grass while playing football, or your three yr old dumps a whole bowl of cereal on the floor, then laughs about it, while you're running late for work, lol. If you're sober, that's the best gift you can give those kids, you, 100% you, with no beer on your breath, That's just way cool.
