TOPIC: It's Not The End Of The World

Hi Im Sharon and Im an Alcoholic.

By the grace of my HP and people
like you here in SR I haven't found
it necessary to pick up a drink of
alcohol since 8-11-90.

For that and you I am truely grateful.

It truely did seem like the end of
the world or my life that last night
I downed a hand full of pain pills
and wine.

One last time to argue with my
spouse about coming in late. One
last time to feel like a failure.

Family stepped in with an intervention
where the authorities came to drive
me away to rehab.

I can tell you what....I fought with
every ounce of energy I had with
my husband, staired my family
down with daggers in my eyes,
hatred in my voice, wisked away
like a criminal who committed
a truely hanis crime.

My time had come.

I entered rehab and locked away
that first night like others with
mental problems. The next day
I passed all their mind test with
flying colors to them informing
me i had a drinking problem
and needed to be on another floor
for Alcoholics Anonymous.

Man was I relieved..!

For 28 days they handed me
the tools and knowledge of
my alcoholism and set me
on a path of recovery learning
to live one day at a time
without drinking.

Upon release I held on for
dear life following those
who had stayed sober for
a long time. I saw joy in
them. I saw smiles, laughter.

These people, whom I had
this alcoholism thing in common
with showed me how to have
fun and stay sober.

It wasn't the end of the world
as I thought it was, but the
beginning of a new life filled
with graditude and change.

20 yrs later and im still living
this new, remarkable and awesome
life in recovery.

It continues to get better the
longer i stay sober.

It will be for each of you too.
