Was feeling fed-up. Quick one.
Was feeling fed-up. Quick one.
Fed-up - bored, just when the leaflet from the local shop came through - different cases of beer etc, cheapy-cheap-cheap!
And I was there... In my head again, going to get it, bringing it home, cracking the first one...
Whumph!! Back to reality.
Then something I learned here:
PLAY THE TAPE TO THE END nasty nasty ending.
So it's passed, but a bad 30 minutes.
Sneaky, Sneaky, Sneaky, Sneaky, Sneaky, alcohol.
You can never let down your guard.
Thanks folks,
Stu.

Chopper,
You should be proud of yourself. Glad you thought it out and made the decision best for you. Alcohol is always trying to find a weak spot. A bad day, a celebration, just plain old boredom. We always need to stay one step ahead. Sounds like that's what you did. Good going!

Hey man. You did good mate. You 'told' on yourself before you picked up!! That is the crucial part that many never do. It's sure hard telling on yourself as your alkie mind knows that it's going to get talked out of it's fix!
Nice one man, you did the right thing. I admire your honesty too mate, absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, infact quite the opposite, you have the total honesty that's required to stay sober and keep your recovery moving along.
Thinking it through is always good as you know that the first can doesn't last long and then its the next and the next and then it's downing the cans one after the other and blacking out and then getting more the next day etcetcetc. Back to day one feeling crap and then the alkie mind is back in business and you're probably gonna be getting hammered regularly again.
Drinking for an alcoholic is a mugs game. Always ends in tears.
Nice one man. Maybe have a think about how you can maybe tweak your recovery if you need to strengthen certain elements? I know that a lack of gratitude was/is always a major factor for me.
I always find that these tough times make my sobriety so much stronger. You appreciate how 'precious' your sobriety is. You always get a wake up call that alcoholism is an insidious, sneeky git. It will always look to get back in if at all possible.
Peace

Hi mama
'playing the tape through to the end' is looking past that initial desire of a drink, and the rosy memories we can all have... and forcing yourself to look right through the process to at the inevitable bad consequences we've all had, many times, from that 'one drink'.
It's been a useful technique for me, and many others here
