The BIG BOOK

I have my Big Book on order...the one that I found is the 4th Edition...is this okay or should I have tried to order the 1939 or whatever year it was, 1st Edition?

Just want to be sure because I still have time if I want to cancel.

The one I have is a 3rd edition. I think there are some differences, but I don't know what they are. I would hope the basic ideas are the same.

These are the changes that have been made in the program portion of the Big Book (the first 164 pages and the roman numeraled pages) since it was first published on April 10, 1939. Changes are in Blue and page numbers are provided. Each first reference given in red is from the First Edition. The numbering of the second reference is from the 2nd through the 4th editions which hasn't changed over the years.

The forward to the 4th is kinda crappy- IMO (actually I think it's horrible but, oh well.....) but that's the one I use.

How you use it and who helps you with it are vastly more important than which edition you get.

congrats on making the effort.

Thanks all...I not only made the effort but for the first time in my lift, simply because of finding this site, I know that I AM an alcoholic. There may be doubt in the minds of those around me, but I have not doubt and I am the one who has to live inside my head and body!

I Love it here on S.R.

The fourth edition is the most recent so it's probably the best to have, imho. Congrats on ordering it...hope you get a lot out of it. Great stuff.

Its a life saver, a gateway to a new life, part of your program for staying sober and living life, another part is the action written about it the book.

Hmm.....
A bit of clarification please....

The reason you see only 1st. Edition quoted here on SR
is a matter of copy right issues.

Any posts that quote without saying 1st Edition are removed.

This has nothing to do with what members actually use.

Here is the First Edition....if you want to compare

http://www.region5oa.org/bigbook/BigbookFirstEd.html

personally I use both the 3rd ...cause that got
me sober in '89 and the 4th as it's in large print.

No I don't bother with comparisons...
