Friends Coming to Stay.

We have visitors coming tonight - staying for 4 days. Mum dad and 3 kids. Mum and dad are not big drinkers, but there will be alcohol at some point - not for me of course.

Days gone by this would have been a lost weekend for me, and while I don't intend to drink one bit - something told me to make this post declaring that I won't be consuming any booze!?

Had to go with the feeling so there we are

Ta,

Stu.

I would have posted just like
you did here about up coming
plans where alcohol maybe a
concern.

It's a part of our program to
make sure we are in a good
secure place when alcohol
arises.

I have avoided people, places
and things reguarding alcohol,
except places like the grocery
store where we need to go for
food....however I dont need to
run down the alcohol isle.

Of course I can avoid that part,
and having thoughts of knowing
it's there I can quickly replace it
with other positive healthy ones.

You have enough experience, wisdom
and courage to do the next best
thing if you get squirrelly with family
and alcohol around you.

Lost weekend . . . that used to be my phrase for those weekends I spent drunk out of my mind.

From the sounds of it, you'll do fine.

If you find yourself in trouble, though . . . Dee always says to play the tape all the way through. Don't think of just the fun part of being drunk. Sure, it would feel good at first. But, then, imagine yourself doing increasingly embarrassing things as the evening wore on. Imagine passing out in an uncomfortable position after you'd made a fool of yourself. Finally, imagine waking up the next morning hungover and filled with shame. Does it for me every time.

Good luck, and I think you'll do fine.

Hey man. You'l be fine. Just take it like any other day 'one day at a time'.

It's always good to get out of your own head what your feeling and what you plan to do. Certainly helps me, anyway.

Enjoy your weekend man! Be proud of your sobriety and recovery. The first drink is the only one to avoid for an alkie. It's easy really when you think about it.

Peace

Last night was fine - I sat with my big bottle of fizzy pop watching the "normal" people having a sociable drink.

No sweat so far thanks for the support guys. Love SR. - It's like having a meeting you can drop in on at any time.

Another day today - will be cool!

SR is so AWESOME because like
for you Stu....they have been here
for me thru thick and thin.

I'm never alone with SR readily
available to me.

They are my online connection
or lifeline in recovery.

Love my SR family...!!!!

The great thing about have friends over when you are sober is that you get to enjoy their company rather than slipping off into drunkenness alone.

Proud of ya.

Hey man. Nice one on the 'check-ins'. It's great for others as well as your recovery mate.

Sounds like you're doing really good mate and have a really good 'acceptance' of your condition i.e- alcoholism.

Nice one!!

Ps- Yer, I love SR too!!

Thanks guys - bed at 10pm last night. Woke up beside my groaning wife (hangover city!) today feeling fresh and very grateful I wasn't up until 1am+ with the rest of them.

Will just a small amount of smugness affect my recovery ??

Just another day.

LOL

You can probably survive a TEENSY bit of smugness--just don't get carried away.

Good for you.
