Sobriety & Anxiety Disorders

Hi all,

I'm on day 24 here and feel physically great. I have been experiencing problems with my mental health though. I found in the past few weeks my OCD has been through the roof and I have been a lot more anxious. I am going to the doctor today to address these issues. Have other people found they were a lot more anxious when they quit? And those with anxiety orders did they get worse? I am thinking it has to do with alcohol no longer deadening my thinking and emotions so all of a sudden my brain has more energy. Does this calm down?

I think anxiety is very common.
I was always anxious but I was much worse in early recovery.

It did get better but it took some time.
Good for you seeing the Dr :)

I think it's pretty common for the anxiety to ramp up initially, and then to calm down. I agree with Dee, good to check it out with your doc.

Yes, agreed, my anxiety level was higher than ever when I stopped drinking. Gradually, I began to feel better, but it does take some time. It's good that you are talking to your dr.

Honestly, I've been drinking the depressants so long I couldn't tell you if I have an anxiety issue or not. There are so many things that can't be addressed until you drop the booze.
