This is a newcomers forum. They did not say, "AA is the only way, all other forms of recovery stink." It was merely a message saying that AA worked for them.

Paranoia strikes deep.

Before locked this thread, I would like to say a bit. Yesterday, I went to AA. The meeting was great. A young man came from rehab and talked. He had attempted to suicide with an agricultural chemical. He is slender and very gentle. Japanese sobriety society with Japanese soldier style may not save such person. JMHO.

If I'm a newcomer and I'm reading this thread, I think, "OK, this first guy thinks AA works." Then, I see some positive responses. Good so far. Then I see someone question why someone would talk about what worked for them. I get confused. Why is this person questioning this person's post? Hmmm...ok, some more positive posts. And then...more questions and passive/aggressiveness. And if I'm a newcomer, I think, how insane are these people?

And then maybe I think about drinking.

Wonderful.

Why do threads get locked?

Usually it's because of members disrespecting each other.

There is no perfect one way to find recovery from alcoholism.

Many of our members have found sucessful recovery without
a structured program. And some do use a formal program.

I do so hope everyone finds their way into a productive
healthy future without addiction....

I've already spoken to one member about this today.

The Newcomers Forum is, as I see it, a place where those new to recovery can gain some hope, some inspiration, and some guidance if they want it.

It's also got to be a place where we can share what works for us.

If someone else posting what works for them puts your nose that far out of joint you have to post about it, I humbly suggest you might benefit from some introspection, or some time away from the PC.

I'm disappointed that time and again we end up in silly squabbles and with threads locked.

If we're not all on the same team - helping ourselves and others recover - we may as well all log off now.

I'm pretty grumpy today and not nearly as nice as Carol - any more nonsense and I'll close this thread.

Well said Dee.

AA works for me. I respect anyone that can stay sober and away from the curse of addiction, whatever the method.

OK, I just modified what I said......as it was not the kindest comment of the day.

But seriously, here is to hoping you will support whatever works Humblebee

I too have struggled with the not getting on the AA bandwagon.

All I know is it did save my life.......and it can be hard to not talk of it at times.

If you knew me before an active formal recovery program, you might like AA a bit more.

:rotfxko

Toodles!!

I need to jump in here to comment on my feelings after reading this thread.

In Recovery, I have learned two very important things. One is humility - my way is not the only way. The other is to be non-judgemental. For those two things I am extremely grateful.
