Why its so important for me to keep myself busy
Why its so important for me to keep myself busy
Coming up to 30 days clean and since I am disabled and cant get around alot I am literally getting battered by the sheer monotony that life has to offer me in my apartment for 90 % of my life. for the last four years
So of course the false safety net of using once again rears its ugly head and over the last week I made a commitment to myself - I will exhaust every avenue to rid myself of the boredom and if I give it 100% effort for 30 days and I cant find something useful and interesting to do, then I will use......but I am gonna die trying first.
And so slowly but surely an idea came to me. I will create a professional blog that takes on all the issues that recovering addicts have to deal with early in their recovery.
Boredom is one of mine - so I am gonna talk about me being bored!! Anxiety is another. I will talk about that and the pills I am on for anxiety and mild depression.
I will talk about the loss of my best friend and worst enemy - my drug of choice. I mourn, I crave and I hate it all at once.
I will discuss my disability to the world wide web and why I need help to stop feeling ashamed about something that is not my fault.
I will spend more time on recovery forums - I will bond with people here and I will hopefully find my sponsor here too.
I've just killed half an hour writing this - so I am on a roll!!!
And finally I will end my blog every night with
" GOD , PLEASE, I BEG OF YOU, TO GRANT ME THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CANNOT CHANGE , THE COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS I CAN AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE"
So I wait (impatiently) as my web designer puts the building blocks in place and gives me all the functions i need to communicate with everyone how I REALLY feel and hopefully take the edge off the boredom that haunts my every waking moment

Hey there,
I find dealing with boredom really challenging too. Sometimes I amuse myself merely by my own cynical attitude - which cant be healthy, but its not getting drunk. A blog sounds like a great idea Theres also a thread someone started with heaps of other ideas too

Least,
You are such a sweetie and moral booster.
I know you will be someone i can count on in the future for a chat during the difficult days. God Bless
And thank you Ainsley. Aren't all of us addicts cynics and skeptics....!!

That sounds like a really good plan!
It seems that you are excited about the idea, ready to go and have lots of good ideas for writing. That doesn't like boredom at all, so good for you!

When you get it set up....you can use it as a home page
in your Profile. Glad you are planning for keeping busy.
I too have several disabilties that limit my activities
Thankfully...only 1 is painful.
This might be what Ainslie mentioned?

Hi Midnightrun
I'm also disabled and can't get out much either - posting and reading here at SR has been a lifeline for me, especially in the early days.
I think it's vitally important for everyone to have a sense of purpose, but especially so if you're housebound.
I wish you well with your blog.
