How long has it been since you quit drinking? it takes at least7-10 days (for me at least) to return to a normal sleep pattern.
you might try the OTC supplement Valarian and melatonin for some relief. Cut out caffiene for now, chammomile tea works to start making me yawn, a very dark cool room and a normal bedtime routine.
a small turkey sandwich is another safe try.

Hi Balou,
You know, when I got sober that was my #1 fear - lack of sleep. Let me pass along what my psychiatrist told me (and she specializes in substance abuse) - 2-3 hours of sober sleep is healthier than 9-10 hours of "drunk" sleep.
I know it sucks right now but it can and will get better. I slept a little here and there my first week but definitely had the insomnia thing going. However, it does get better!
Remember this as well. I've never known or heard of a person that has died from a lack of sleep. I've known plenty that have died of alcohol and drugs.
Hang in there!

When I detoxed from Methadone, it took about a good 3 days before I was getting ANY sleep at all. Melatonin helped some, but I was still waking up a few times a night..hell I still do.
