Today was not my day....

After a very long night of work and emotional stress I found that today was not my first day of recovery. As hard as it is to admit this I realize that at least I'm at the point that I can admit it. Tomorrow not only brings a new sunrise but a new opportunity to make it my first day of sobriety.

As Buddy Ebson said in an old episode of the Andy Griffith show, "Tomorrow is the best day to start any job". In reality I have found that now is always the best time, because the job never goes away, and the longer you wait the bigger the task seems, and then you stress about having to do it tomorrow. Do yourself a favor and don't procrastinate, you will eventually be happy that you started that job.

I'm glad you are renewing your commitment. I made a lot of promises to myself over the last couple years of drinking and wasn't able to keep them, but it did make me more and more aware of my alcoholism.

Finally, after lots of trying, something clicked. I KNEW in my heart that if I didn't do something, I would continue to drink and wind up with no life, alone, in the hospital, or dead. Every drink brought me closer to that reality.

It was reading all the posts here at SR that did it for me. I read dozens and dozens of pages in the Newcomers Section and saw my past, present and future - it took away that last bit of denial.

We'll be here for you on day 1, so don't give up!!

There is always something going on that can make me unsettled.
With a clear sober mind....I can keep in balance....

The quicker you begin....the sooner the sober benefits start.

You might want to check with your doctor about how to
best de tox from alcohol. But...to be effective you
really have to be honest about your drinking patterns.

All my best.....

I agree with Carol, that there will always be something to get in the way, so I hope you can find a way to make this work. I did the same thing myself, and eventually, after hundreds of excuses to myself, I realized that I just had to stop and there never would be a perfect time.

I hope that you check in tomorrow.

I 'started over' too many times to count, but here I am with seven months! I was always trying and failing, but never gave up and it finally paid off! Forgive yourself, learn from it, and move forward again.

Look forward to hearing about your day 1 tomorrow. Stick with your plan and try to do it just for 24 hours. If it works try again for the next 24 hours.

Well here i am, DAY 56. and yes I was able to start the next day. My sobriety date is July 8th 2010. I joined this site on July 7th 2010 and was in such a place of 'fear' LOL that I went and got blackout drunk. But when i woke but, THANK GOD!, I knew i was DONE! Done for ever. Drinking was no longer 'working' for me. I'm a proud member of AA, I have a great sponsor who keeps me 'REAL' and grounded. I love my life and what sobriety has to offer. Always looking forward to the next 24. thanks to everyone on this site that lends a helping hand to those who still suffer in and out of these pages

Day 56! That's AWESOME! Just don't drink, no matter what and remember One Day at a time. That's all you need to concentrate on: Today!

Proud of you and so very happy for you!
