Man buys beer with $2 bill meant for granddaughter

So I go to buy a coffee across from work and the guy ahead of me is buying a 24 ounce can of Heineken and paying for it with a $2 bill. The cashier had to ask someone else if the bill was even real. Then the guy jokes that he was meaning to put it in a birthday card for his granddaughter. I cringed. Clearly was not on his first drink, clearly not fully appreciating was he was doing, and clearly far the worst drunken error anyone could make, but it was a cold reminder of how thoughtless alcohol can make us. I always remember - "there but for the grace of god ..."

That does seem pretty cold and selfish.:( Glad drinking isn't my first priority anymore.:)

Years ago I was flat broke and my g/f just arrived back home from a business trip to Thailand. I stole her excess Thai currency she had tucked away and converted it at the local Money Mart & promptly went and bought a six pack of beer. Even by my standards as an alcoholic that was pretty pathetic looking back.

(p.s. I did pay her back)
