A power greater than ourself

It is imparative that we come to believe in a Higher Power no matter what we choose to call it, a Group Of Drunks, Good Orderly Direction, Ala, Buda. Just as long as we have a power greater than ourselves.

Hmm, nope. I don't believe in a "Higher Power" in the sense that AA tells you to, and my sobriety's just fine. :)

A.A. does not tell us what or who we have to call a Higher Power, that is up to us. It is not hard to believe that there has to be something or someone out there that made our blue skies, deep oceans, and life on this planet. Even the Big Bang therory ( sorry cant spell ), according to scientist , is hard to explain. Believing in YOUR Higher Power is what is important. And if that still doesn't help you, your welcome to use mine for as long as you like.

For a while my two dogs were my higher power. Worked for me.:)

I don't worry about what my higher power 'is.' It just is.

That's what works for me. If that makes any sense.

I think my ancestors are my HP. Ancestors in Japan is like guardian angels in Christianity.

that's great! I haven't been able to identify my HP and thought about making it my dogs, but I thought my sponsor would think that was silly. :)

You don't have to discuss your HP with your sponsor. Where did you get this idea?

Hi Louie, I have to agree with you 100% humans are flawed creatures hell bent self destruction. recalling from 1st hand experience the numerous times I have had a sixth sense of what was about to happen and sure enough it did over and over why? what is it Guardian Angel? God? who knows? but what I do know is I have been close to death so many times that if any one of these events would have unfolded even slightly different than it did I would not be here today talking to you fine people. IMHO when one begins to except a hp other then themselves it is without a doubt in my mind that a hp truly does exist.

Dgillz, I want to discuss my HP with my sponsor. I am not religious, wasn't raised with religion and have a hard time envisioning that power greater than myself that I can connect with, so we talk about it a lot when we meet.

It's currently "Fate" or my dead grrandmother, depending on my mood.

I don't think it's imperitive to have a HP - I think the point is that alcoholism is soooo self-absorbing that you need to externalise. I am increasingly believing in "The Secret". Again, not a higher power but simply that you get what you believe you will. Works for me! Others want to call that "God". Works for them! :DA

There's lots of stuff greater than me, but I don't use 'it'/'them' in my recovery... no need.
