The Friday Plan
The Friday Plan
My first Friday (and only day 2) of trying to be sober in a very long time. Years, surely. So, I thought I would make a plan so that I have a roadmap, so to speak.
1. Make a plan
2. Share the plan with others
3. Read more about recovery during the day
4. Get to the gym during the day
5. Flip bird at the 4 liquor stores where they know you by name on the way home from work
6. Potential work projects: weed garden, get materials for closet cabinet, clean garage
7. Have dinner with family
8. Movie night? (must check others schedules)
9. Post updates here for strength and inspiration as needed

I'll check out the chat if I'm not otherwise enagagd with my family. Spending time with them is PLAN A, but they may have already made other plans as I have typically avoided family activities on weekend evenings so that I could just sit in my recliner and get pickled watching a ball game or old movie. I suspect they will all notice me NOT drinking on a Friday evening. Hopefully no one says anything. I am not ready to discuss it yet. Previous pronouncements about me giving up alcohol have all turned into disappointments for them (and me), so I wanted to make it through a weekend before saying anything about my intentions.

I like your plan too! Good thinking! My favorite:
LOL - I noticed I have a little "healthy anger" at alcohol myself! I hope your weekend turns out to be great. I remember getting through my first Friday night and feeling so out of sorts/alone/agitated (just generally unhappy) because I didn't know what to do with myself, but what I'm also finding out is that the more I do it, the easier it gets. It almost feels like the "norm" now, so hang in there!!
Flip bird at the 4 liquor stores
What a great idea! I'm making a plan and writing it out too
1. Go to the farmer's market (it's on an actual farm!) and get fresh fruits and veggies
2. Conquer a complicated french recipe (I love cooking)
3. Read a book (I also love to read and can't read drunk)
4. Hang out with my husband and sister at home and play a game
5. Workout

Something else I should put in future plans is
I think I am more sensitive than most to getting moody when my blood sugar is out of whack. Since moody=trouble for me, I need to have a plan to maintain that throughout the day, as well.
- Eat to manage my blood sugar

We went out for dinner - Wife, daughter and I. Really slow service was pissing me off and my focus went right to the beer at the next table for a while, but I just ate some bread and tried to keep the conversation about our upcoming Grand Canyon trip going. Once the food came I calmed down again, 'cause it was REAL good.
