Thank you for the support!
Hello…I’ve been coming to this site for a couple weeks, and posted several things, but have not done an introduction. I am a 34 year old male from the Midwest. Today is my 30th day sober. Thank you for all the support I have received on SR! Especially a great friend that introduced me to this site. She also taught me that although I should be happy about today – it is just another day and to continue to take things one day at a time.
SR and the people on SR are inspiring. I’ve learned so much from reading about your experiences. I’ve had ups and downs the last 30 days but have been ok.
My story is soooo similar to many others on SR. I drank to help me sleep, but that took more and more, then I got very depressed. Pretty soon I only felt better when I drank, but that made me more depressed, so I drank more, and got more depressed, so I drank more and so on. My life was revolving around drinking.
I love waking up and not wondering what happened the night before. I don’t get as much sleep as I did before but I love that it is actually sleep and I am not pretty much passed out and unconscious. My head is clearing up and I am feeling better.
So thank you to everyone on SR! I look forward to continuing to learn from you.

Hi Ghostly,
Well done and thanks for your heartfelt post!
It's interesting - my therapist (13 yr recovering alcoholic) told me the #1 concern voiced by alcoholics on getting sober is that they won't be able to sleep. Then he dropped this bomb on me: 3 hours of sober sleep is healthier than 12 hours of drunk sleep. Go figure!
FWIW, I didn't sleep that well at first but, after 3 months, I can tell you that I'm now sleeping like a baby. The sleep will come - I promise you!
Also remember that you won't die from not sleeping well. You can and will die from alcoholism.
Thanks again for your post and have an awesome, sober day!

30 days! I feel the same way about SR. And I relate so much to the drinking/depression cycle. I had to get treatment for my depression and now that I'm sober, it's actually working again. Keep up the good work!!
