I'm digging up my own thread here as I reminder. As I'm sure many before me have - I relapsed; and over the last 6-8 months have gotten worse. For a brief period I was up to 4-6 beers every night. I did 6 weeks over the summer where I only drank a total of 12 beers which was a huge win for me - but once the challenge period was over, I was right back to nightly drinking.

I'm back to day 1. Third time's a charm?

Welcome back!

Have you considered what you'll do this time in order to stay sober? Are you planning to attend meetings, are you reading any recovery books... got a plan?

I am reading a recovery book at the moment - went to Amazon 2 weeks ago when I was feeling overly compelled to be protactive in trying to stop, aside from just "wanting to." I bought the first book I found that had a lot of positive reviews and that's Allen Carr's Easy Way to Control Alcohol. I'm about 1/2 way through it. I'm also going to a weekly bible study class at church with my wife; we are working our way through the book of John. This puts me in a place where I'm not surrounded by other alcoholics (at least not during class). Lastly, I'm trying to get involved in a hobby that I enjoy, can do at home and that I don't get to do nearly enough: woodworking. It gives me a little time to myself in the workshop and my wife gets furniture and other goodies out of it. : )

Tonight, when I was thirsty - I got two glasses of water. I knew it already, but reading the book did bring to light part of the cycle of drinking. It doesn't quinch your thirst, it dehydrates you. So you have one drink and then actually feel more thirsty so you get another and another and so goes the cycle. Two glasses of water quinched my thirst tonight. So I raise my (water) glass to you all to have a good night. I'll check in tomorrow! Thanks for the comments and feedback. I'm always open to advice.

Great for you that you realize you want to stop and trash the rest of your beer. When you work on cars with the guys ..why not have a Rootbeer instead with your food. Thanks for sharing your story!

His was a unique perspective, I thought. I read that book early on and it made quite an impression on me.

Great plan! Staying close to SR helps too.
