Could anybody tell me about AA meetings eg could I attend without telling my wife ,how much would I have to get involved,are they totaly confidential..jo

get as involved with AA as you did with your drinking!!

Why would you want to be decieving your wife about going to an AA meeting?

Completely confidential. You can sit there and listen if you want, or speak. Its really up to you. I would tell your wife, she may think your cheating. They have cookies!!
