new and on anabuse

I put myself in rehab Jan. 14. It was my first time. I have tried and failed to do it on my own. So, I am not new to AA. I tried AA about 1.5 years ago. I lasted 6 mnonths before going back out.
I knew I needed more help. I have a question to anyone who has been on anabuse or has jnowledge about this drug

Hi Addison
Welcome to SR

Sorry, I've never used antabuse either, but the best way to do it is under medical supervision - have you seen a Dr?

someone will be here soon who's been on antibuse. I've heard about it and many are helped by it. it's very important to not drink when on it as there's a painful reaction

anyway you probably know that

welcome

Welcome Addison!

This was asked on the Alcoholism forum here. You can do a search for more responses, but this link was included there for a start...

Best ~

"...not 'anyone' can take the drug as it depends on the state of their liver. Very useful advice.

I hope you don't decide o drink while on anabuse,...I've heard that alcohol and anabuse can be deadly. Do you still go to meetings?

The best things to follow ....
as for as antabuse s concerned....
your doctors directions and the Warnings
on the paper enclosed with the drug

Get those liver test done with your doctor.
Believe those printed Warnings.....

Welcome to our recovery community ...

I did use Antabuse....here is my personal experience

I did drink whith it.... became so violently ill
I quit the Antabuse....

The catalyst for my reaction was a single split of
champagne ..18 hours after the lowest dosage.

Be sure and check out the afterlife of Antabuse
I kinda remember it stays in your system 4 or 5 days
after the last pill. Also...you do need to have your
doctor monitor liver enzymes if you take the drug

You must be also very aware of foods and
products containing any type of alcohol.
Depending on a persons senstivity....an unknown factor
you can also get quite ill that way too.

I also had to see my doctor monthly for blood test
to make sure my liver was not failing.

Antabuse does nothing for cravings.
It did nothing for my recovery either.
God and AA did....

I have never used antabuse but I know what the label says on it, it states flat out that it should only be taken in conjuction with a long term recovery program & or a therapist.

This is one mistake so many make when taking antabuse, camparal, & revia, they think that the drug alone is the solution when all the drug is meant to be is an aide to a long term recovery program.

I hope you are using AA or some other program to go along with the antabuse.

I used it for five months, problem was i didn't get into a program of recovery like AA whilst i was using it...once i had been given the all clear by the counselor i was seeing and a prognosis of your future looks bright i think you will be fine...stopped the antabuse as i didn't need it anymore and str8 back to drinking...lovely job lol
