Alcohol causing health problems
Alcohol numbs all our little aches and pains, whether they are related to drinking or to age. Once we stop drinking we notice them all.
My biggest problem has been my memory. It used to be real good, impressive actually. Now I don't know why I opened the fridge. Remembering names has also become a challenge. Age or alcohol? I honestly don't know. But it is a fact I will have to live with and I'm not going to make myself sick worrying about it.
Now - which support group was this again?

increased BP
Weight gain
the most HORRIBLE side effects are the effects on my brain once brief alcohol buzz has worn off. 17 days today and BY THE GRACE OF GOD N:EVER WANT TO GO THROUGH ANOTHER WITHDRAWAL/AFTEREFFECTS! -anxiety+++++ depression+++++ memory lapse,(still there) etc etc
No so-called friendship stress relief is worth the aftereffects
aftereffects can start off be subtle and when sucked in by alcohol can take on a life of there own
it is only when i STOP can i see what it has been doing to me!!!!!
there should be more publicity given to the hidden perils of this brain POISON
how many cases of dementia are actually alcohol abuse undiagnosed because of all variables associated wth history taking?

High BP and high BG are regular - alcohol affects one's kidneys and liver in ways that don't directly produce the effect of liver disease. Alcoholic pseudo-Cushings and alcoholic cardio-myopathy are pretty scary. General neuropathy of external areas as a result of primary factors as well as necrosis of internal organs is very scary. Wet brain is end game.
I'm not a physician but there's no reason you shouldn't consult one.

neuropathy
Hi
I was just wondering if anyone has reversed neuropathy. I have muscle spasms and numb feet. My neuro says it should go away withing six months meaning the nerves heal and regenerate. Has anyone been through this. I am now 40 days sober.
thanks

the only thing I am familiar with is that nerves grow very slowly...a family member underwent facial surgery due to tumors entwined around the optic nerve which had to be removed and grafts were performed from the calf to the face and eye area...regrowth of the grafts took about 18 months.
Hi Houndheart - after your post, and just out of my own curiousity I went to the yellow pages and looked up Alcoholism. I was amazed at the number of resources it listed, most of which I'd never heard of. I noticed there were several doctors that offered a variety of services (detox, treatment for anxiety/depression, free assessments, sleep disorders, etc.). Glad to know there are options out there. Good luck on your search!!
I am new to this internet thing and see that these replies were from March. I would love to share what I know about what alcohol can do to your health. I had a liver transplant and now have stage 4 kidney disease as well as many more physical and mental issues. I have a lot to share. keep pushin on buddy.
