made it to 17

Day 17 has been up and down ive been thinking alot today . For the last 6 months have been a little hard in july had some vision issues after going through several test by specialist in atlanta i was found to have B.E.S.T disease in both eyes 20/200 in left and now my right eye is about 20/90 in the right eye . I drove a gas truck . I was told no more CDL'S now I cant drive period. Now on disability. I also have one of my twins that has low vision not related to my problem they were born at 26 weeks so I dont feel sorry for myself he uses a cane and reads braille and dont let it hold him back . I also lost my grandpa in august. we were close.I have to ask people to help me sometimes that bothers me. Im glad I can post here.I decided I needed to stop this heavy drinking. I want to live a long time if possible.I turn 33 on the 18th

Congrats on 17 days!!

It IS hard to ask people to help (or at least it has been for me, but I'm getting better). I finally realized, though, that a lot of people WANT to help, would be more than GLAD to help if they were only asked.

I also know I couldn't have gotten to where I am today, had I not asked for help.

It sounds like you've had a lot going on, but you're doing great!

Hugs and prayers!

Amy

Congrats on 17 days, my condolances on your grandpa passing.

It is possible to go through the worst of times sober for a recovering alcoholic, I see this all the time in meetings, I have stayed sober through some fairly rough times, but nothing in comparison to some others I know.

I could have never got or stayed sober with out asking for help. I fought the world alone, never asking for help............... until I had my butt whipped by King Alcohol. What I have learned over the past 3 1/2+ years is 2 things:

1. Things go smoother if I ask for help when I need help.

2. When I help others life go smoother as well.

When I allow others to help me they feel good, just like I feel good helping others.

Today makes 19 days this is the longest i have stayed sober in 10 years. I feel good urges I have had .Thoughts of I am ok now .But then I want to stay ok.So I realize it is not only a day by day thing its a hour by hour minute by minute thing .But having a good day it does get better but doesn't go away.

for me, each day gets a little easier...and I feel better too...I think a big part is that I am sleeping regular hours with no alcohol induced stuper.

did you try a little light exercise for helping your evening anxiety? a 20 minute walk, some deep breathing, fresh air?

congrats on your 19 days!!!! and feeling good too!

but gonna do this time..On day13, Fandy also in the same of going further..Hopefully for all of us the whole way..free from booze an happier without..Its good and supportive to have others..Especially those just stopped, and at very similar points in soberness..The support from here is so good, when you stumble theres so many who can point you in the right direction. Many Experienced sobertarians in the House..

Congrats on day 19! Staying sober hasn't made my life easier, just easier for me to deal with whatever comes my way. I wish you well on your sober journey! You are not alone!

Scamy, think about what a blast it would be to have a birthday like that, no drinking. Wow yourself! I don't know if you need to avoid other people, but if you think it would be a good idea, I guess you should do what you have to (to avoid drinking).

Treat yourself to something fun....a new movie you've wanted to buy? or see? a trip to somewhere you haven't gotten to? (i'd suggest some shopping, but I have a feeling that is not your thing....but if there is a hobby you thought about, pursue it for your birthday).

there are a lot of opportunities for Sober folks!!!

congrats on feeling better too!
