Hello all,

I'm a mom of a 27 yo son, who is a short-time recovery heroin addict. Been only six month since we realized what was happening. On my BD, (a Friday) he called with the first of many calls that alerted us to what was really happening. Over the w/e I spoke w/his gf who told me they had been smoking opium and I realized just how deeply involved he was. On Mon morning, we decided that my husband would drive 600 miles w/o notice and pick him up. I stayed home and researched addiction treatments so we would have some ideas of how to handle it. TG 4 WWW ;-)

When he arrived at the son’s apt, they had just finished smoking a “bowl” and I guess our son’s eye’s just about bugged outta his skull. Anyway, he came outside and when asked if he wanted to come home, he said YES. Since then, 3-mo rehab, barely one month home, clean & sober; left for 10 days and most likely used and has been home for little over three weeks. Since his return, he’s gone to one NA mtg, doesn’t appear to using any opiods, but just recently we discovered evidence of him smoking weed. Not quite sure where to go from here, but like a lot of us, one day at a time. tera

Hi tera

Welcome to SR. I'm not a parent, but many of our members are and I'm sure they'll have experience to share with you.

I do know it's really important you take care of yourself in all of this.
Have you and your husband thought of something like NarAnon?

I'm in Australia but Naranon is a world wide phenomenon

You could also read our Family and Friends forums - I think you'll find a lot of similarity and experience down there too

Please keep reading and posting

Hi and welcome to SR.

I hope you check out those links that Dee recommended. It's a worry when a family member has an addiction. You are best placed to help them when you have taken care of yourself.
take care.
