Thankful for 8 months.
Thankful for 8 months.
It was exactly 8 months ago today (June 22, 2009) that I was checked into the emergency room with a severe panic/anxiety attack following yet another weekend of almost non-stop beer drinking. The doctor told me that I was "probably" (HA!) an alcoholic and if I didn't quit soon, then I was in for even more trouble sooner than later. That was the wake-up call that I'd needed to hear for nearly 30 years. I haven't had a drop since that day and it just keeps getting better.
Thanks to everybody here for the incredible support and encouragement these past 245 days. I couldn't have come this far without all of YOU.
Thanks to the "old-timers" for sharing their stories of recovery. When I see you here, some with YEARS of recovery, it gives me hope for the future.
Thanks to the youngsters for showing me that addiction doesn't care how old or young you are. I only wish that I had been even half as bright as some of you at that age.
Thanks to those who bravely share their stories of relapse, but yet keep coming back here and trying to beat this thing. I'm living proof that YOU can do it!
