Hello New Today 2/17/10
Been boozing for 35 years and am sick and tired of it. Been browsing this site for awhile and it is very, very helpful. Interesting how everyone is a different type drunk!
I am the perfect closet drinker. No one and I me no one in my family has any idea how much I put away. I am the type that goes to my little boys sports room and puts away beteen 8 - 15 drinks an evening. Such a tolerence!!
Well - I know the amount and have known I am an alcoholic for about 10 years. Going to beat it this time.
One problem I have had reading the posts are those that have a problem with the AA 12 point program and it's religious theme. The so called atheists. An alcoholic (like me) with a whacked out brain has figured out there is no God??? That is beyond stupid. No one can prove there is a higher up but we sure cannot prove there isn't.
My faith is the only thing that has got me off the jug.
Looking forward to all your help as I battle this devil.

As for the God thing, I'm grateful that the 12 Steps and program of AA allowed me to develop a Higher Power, a God of my understanding. I watered that seed with recovery, and it continues to grow.
Glad you're here!
Welcome to SR. I don't use AA or a 12 step program, and I'm one of the "so called athiests" you're targeting in your intro speech, though I never bash AA because of my beliefs. Luckily there's lots of options out there when people want to get and stay sober, and I found mine when others didn't work for me Hope you find what you're looking for here!

Plan
I have a document that I list all of the reasons to quit. I add my personal thoughts and insights from the forum. I read that document all day long. The reasons to quit are untold. It is so stupid to continue - but - I have that alcoholic "bug" from my father and that is what makes the struggle so difficult.
Thanks for asking - I appreciate your help.

It is 12 steps not points and it is Spiritual not religious.
Posting your thoughts is what a forum is for . Thank you for sharing.
Welcome to SR! No matter what your beliefs or what method you choose to get/stay sober, I'm glad you joined our family! We are all different individuals who share the same problem: addiction and what it does to the addict and those who love them.

Thanks
I really had not thought of a game plan except to rough it through and try to keep busy.
But, you gave me a great idea. If I eat a large meal I lose all craving for the booze. That means to eat a big meal right around 4 PM. That will do it.
Usually, on the weekends I have no craving at all for the stuff until the early afternoon. I made sure to eat a breakfest and then work out and get all ready for a great day of drinking. I looked forward to that. Some of my best days were me and the bottle all alone. I really liked that old guy = until the next morning. Then sleep half the day, feeling like crap so I could get back into the stuff in the late afternoon on Sunday.
How dumb can one be??
Hey - thanks so much for your help and support. I will need it.

Last drink 2-15-10
Hello all. 2nd day without alcohol. 15+ years of drkinking. I have a good friend who has made the decision to stop drinking and after lots of discussion, it looks like I have reached that point as well. I look forward to following this board. I can already see that after two days of looking, help will be here.
