You are doing great and sound similar to me in that you post something here to get a few ideas and ultimately make your own choice.
Nuture you for now, take each day as it comes, especially the lunch with him. It sounds like he is ready to be just friends with you, and thats ok, its better than not having someone you admire so much at all in your life!
