Hungry and Sleepy

What the heck? I am on day 8 (would have been day 20 but had two beers on the 22nd). I am so sleepy and ridiculously hungry!!! Is this just a part of the deal or what? Thoughts?

Congrats on the 8 days, first of all. There seems to be a simple solution to both of those things. If you are sleepy get some sleep, and if you are hungry get something to eat. Hang in there. :)

8 days, 20 days, 1 month, 19yrs,
25 yrs.....For me it was explained
that all I have is today.

Too many people over the yrs ive
seen put together some sober or
clean time to only relapse.

Why you ask?

For me, i relapsed many times
during my drinking career
because I was powerless over
that first drink.

I couldnt stay stopped on my
own for nothing. I tried and failed.

I am grateful that my family
stepped in with an intervention
sending me to rehab where i
stayed for 28 days recieving
the tools and knowledge of
my disease of alcoholism.

I was in a controlled inviroment
for that time which gave me
an advantage to be away from
the temptation of alcohol.

However once i returned home
I was on my own.

What did I do to not pick up
a drink.....I followed the suggestions
of those sober before me. I found
people i could cling onto so to speak
till i was strong enough to stand
on my own.

What does that mean.....well...i
went to many meetings where i
could hear for myself how they
managed to stay sober for as
long as they had. Hearing and
seeing it for my own eyes gave
proof that recovery works.

It's not just not picking up a
drink to stay sober cause anyone
can not drink.....but r they happy?

Not many are....they r miserable
so and so's. Making life miserable
for others as well as themselves.

So what are u to do?

I just had hip replacement this
past June. What if u r getting
ready for that same surgery?

Wouldnt you like for me to share
with you what it was like before
during and after my surgery?

For me, id love to. If i can share
about my surgery with u in order
to ease ur mind then not only am
I glad to do so but i would hope
it would help you.

What if u had hip surgery and just
found out ur neighbor will be going
thru the same surgery as u.

What would u do?

Wouldnt it make u feel good inside
to share ur experience strength
and hope with them in hopes it
would ease his mind?

Same thing with recovery.....
Im here to share how i dont
drink one day at a time just by
following the principles and steps
set down before us to help you.

Yes that makes me feel good
because i know im passing on
the program to u that was so
freely passed on to me.

In turn u do the same to another
and that will help u stay sober
one day at a time.

From my experience it is totally normal. Are you having sugar cravings too?

If you're sleepy take advantage of it and get some sleep. I was plagued by anxiety, would've given anything for good rest. Sounds like a blessing in disguise to me!

And hungry, man oh man I couldn't stop stuffing sugary things in my mouth and washing them down with milk. Eat if you're hungry, just do your best to eat healthy

Sounds perfectly normal to me!

For sure I am craving the sugar!!! I am going to meetings every day and loving it. Got a sponser this week and called her when I was having a hard time. She is out of town now and no cell service. I have other people to call if I need to. At this moment, I am feeling pretty good just perpetually hungry :) I guess I will just have to go with it, I was just curious as to whether or not is is a common response. It could also be that I am in the cold Northland and it is time to hibernate like a bear!

Hi and Welcome,

Ha ha, I can relate to the cold northland hibernating thing. Winter is definitely here.

I think this is a time when you should listen to your body and rest and take care of yourself.

Congratulations and I'm glad you found us.

You sound positive, upbeat, and willing to take action. I think "going with it" is a great plan!
