New to SR
Hi, I never thought I'd find myself here. I've known for years that my husband liked to drink a lot, but I didn't know or didn't want to admit that he's an alcoholic. He doesn't drink everyday, but when he does, it is to the extreme--he's not done until all the alcohol in the house is gone. This scares me to no end. I have to stay up half the night making sure he doesn't hurt himself until he passes out. We both need help. I cannot continue to live like this and I don't know what to do. I'm starting to hate being around him even when he's perfectly sober. This is my first attempt at getting help--and tomorrow I plan on going to my first al-anon meeting. Thanks for listening!!

Welcome! Glad you are here. Congrats on going to an Alanon meeting. You will find much support. Also, like what was already mentioned here--there is a Friends and Family of Alcoholics forum....lots of nice people there who can relate to what you are going through. You are not alone. You didn't cause it, can't control it, can't cure it--your husband's alcoholism. You don't have to be a prisoner of his disease--there is hope.
