AAAAAUUUUGGGGHHHHHH!

Why am I so attracted to threads that seem destined to crash and burn? Why do I get involved? Is it human nature or just my nature?

I like the 'keep in touch' threads too, for example 'Dec. 2009' and 'What's Good'. But spend more time on the flashy destructive ones.

Part of my disease is being addicted to drama and confrontation, so I confess to getting sucked in too sometimes.

It's like anything else in recovery, or life for that matter. Take what you want and leave the rest. Responding and/or reacting to any thread isn't necessary.

Where's the little smilie that had a guy beating a dead horse.

It does appear quite often on here and I'm guilty myself of trying to get the last word in on a subject .


Life's way too short to worry or be consumed over things we can't control.

Zen- That's what I'm talking about. If I saw that on my journeys I would not only stare but stop to try to help, just like here.

I used to get more involved in those threads. Today I am much more selective in the threads on which I will post. Now I read a lot of them, but as soon as I detect high drama, I pretty much know it's not a thread I'm going to be involved with. The other thing you will notice after you've been here for awhile, is that you can tell pretty quickly how a thread is going to proceed just by who is participating. Call it judgemental, but there are some people I just won't respond to their post. I've found it's not effective use of my time.

Getting off on negativity/bs drama. I think it's beyond nature and more related to nurture. It's something we can change if we recognize it's there. When we see it in others we often have the power to redirect it into something better. For me half the battle is realizing that I'm inclined to do it and that is a verrry large componnent of my past drinking behaviors.

Well now, I didn't say I don't gawk. Actually I do, I just don't participate.

It is like mudraking mags at the Dr.'s office. I don't buy them myself but I read them there! Actually I used to....they have all been removed - H1N1 threat.

Rats, I'll have to read the headlines at the checkout when I buy groceries.

I don't buy the rags either, or read them there..but I do read all headline covers

while waiting ..and depending on how outrageous they are...am severely tempted.

And, I would stop and try to help the train wreck folks too.

That's not dramarama...it's called "empathy."

I understand why there are so many serious and very sad threads here, but I enjoyed lightening it up a bit by sharing my unflattering tendency of getting sucked into the high drama threads.

Reality can be fun too.
