New and needing help - Oxy

Well, the fisrt step is admitting a problem, and I have done that. The short version is that for the last 6 - 9 months I have been using 5 - 10mg tablets of oxycodone to circumvent the gastric bypass surgert I had. As of a couple days ago, I was taking 4 - 5 tablets a day. I went cold turkey Thursday night. The days have sucked since. Not really sure what to expect as far as withdrawals and how long. I know this wasn't a large ammount of pills or for a real long time. but obviously it is a problem. How long can I expect these cold sweats, chills, runny nose, lose of appetiate, extremely sore muscles and general crappiness to last? A few days, a few weeks, (god I hope not). Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks all

You might try posting this in the substance abuse forum.

Keep coming back, you'll find a lot of support here.

I'm not a medic, but from my own experience the worst should be over in days and the rest by two weeks max.

welcome on board.

detox is worth it, I have NO hesitancy saying that.

Welcome to SR - this is a great place....

I too am w/d from pills right now.
You will prob experience another 2 - 3 days of these symptoms but at different levels during the day.
It's important to drink a lot of fluids, you're prob losing a lot.
I lived on advil, gravol & immodium for about 4 days....

Your doing great! This place is a Godsend....

welcome to SR syoungblood

We can share our experience, but it goes without saying the best advice you can get comes from your Dr.

Please think about an appointment with them if you haven't already.

We also have a substance abuse forum that may be of interest to you

needless to say, I have a huge concern about admitting this to my doctor. One of which involves my job, the other involved him making me can for in-care treatment. I just can't face that.

I understand the difficulties of seeing a doctor.
It is the responsible choice tho, and I'd be remiss if I didn't point that out here.

Your priorities are your own, and what you choose to do is, of course, up to you syoungblood

syoungblood -

first - welcome!

now:
I think you owe it to yourself to tell your doc everything.
Doctors don't notify anyone regarding you or your treatment.

Secondly -
I hope you'll take this suggestion in the spirit I say it to
you to go to the Oprah website
she did a show on exactly this.
People who'd gotten bypass surgery
and their addictive natures
morphing into other problems.

She had a woman who'd had the surgery
and went from food addiction
to drugs.
One started drinking
the other was promiscuous sexually.

I hope you'll be honest with your doctor
because how else can you get help for the pain?

Secondly,
I hope you'll look into some program of recovery
for the addictive nature of the problem as well.

Again -
welcome to sober recovery
I think this is by far the best recovery website on the web.
There are some very wise, informed, fun, goofy, and happy people here.

I hope you receive the help, support, and friendship
that I have here.
