Just wanted to introduce my self
My name is Joe. I am looking to quit drinking the week of 23 November. I am meeting with a social worker right now to prepare to quit and trying to get up the nerve to go to meetings.
I quit a few years ago for 2 years and thought that I could have just one beer. It worked but the next time it was 2 then 3 and I ended up going back to the harder stuff. (Vodka)
I used a group like this to quit smoking 8 years ago and am hoping this group will help me quit drinking.
I started a joke club in the other group, is their anything like that here ?

heh, yeah, I've tricked myself with that old "I can have just one beer" thing too. I think I'm pretty comfortable, now, with the fact that there is no "one beer" for me. There's either total sobriety, or there's a relapse.
Yeah, there's a bunch of joke stuff on this site. I don't think I have enough posts to post a link to it yet, but it's pretty easy to find on the main forum page.
There's also games and all sorts of other crazy stuff.

I am hoping, no wait....I am going to my first meeting tonight. I'll let you know how it goes...I am so nervous..so so so so nervous. I am on Day 9. It is hard but I am starting to realize for me this is it or else. I have to believe that because it seems to be the bitter truth. All signs point to YES...I have a problem.
Why the 23rd just curious as to the meaning or randomness of the date...
What did the tie say to the hat?
You go on ahead and I'll just hang around buddy!(much funnier when told by a 3 year old)

maybe we can help each other mate.
i recovered from alcoholism and live a lfe of contentment with alcohol in it.
but the cigs....ohhhh the cigs.
i was introduced to a suggested program of action laid out simply in the book alcoholics anonymous..nine years ago and havent felt the need to drink since.
if i can be of any help please pm me anytime

I wanted to be quit before Thanksgiving because I was drinking last year and my son refused to have dinner with us because of it. I want to be able to meet with my counslor a few times before I quit. I have to have a big build up, that how I quit smoking.
