Jo - you've probably already read about Stephanie Wilder Taylor .. but if you haven't, it is worth a read given what you have posted about yourself ...

A Mother Gives Up the (Wine) Bottle - Motherlode Blog - NYTimes.com - the NY Times article about her decision to stop drinking

Never heard of 90-90. I met a sponsor this morning she isn't mine, I don't have one, not sure how that works...is it like being adopted or do I seek someone? So far I am 2 for 2 and told this women I would go to another tonight. I haven't said those words yet, you know..Hi my name is___ and I am a _________. So very hard to say especially outloud but I know deep down inside also. I especially know when 5 o'clock rolls around and I morph into a lunatic.

Meet a girl today who has three years with no relaspes. Wow. I thought everyone relasped...I'm kinda looking forward to one. This is why I have to go to AA...this is why I probably need a sponsor, this is why I am an alcoholic.

Jo - don't stress about how it works yet .. all will come in good time.

A sponsor is a guide to help you. They are there to answer questions and to give you some good advice.

The 90 in 90 is just a suggestion to make sure that you really jump-start your recovery.

And no, not everyone relapses. I haven't relapsed physically, but I have relapsed in my mind ... and this relapse for me was almost more scary that actually taking a drink.

It took me 6 months of sobriety to realize that I was powerless over alcohol and that my life had become unmanageable.

So, keep doing what you are doing. But please, if you want to drink, pull out those phone numbers you were given and give one of them a call before you take that drink. You can do this!
