Fought off temptation last night Last night was Friday, my day to get my beer, wine, or liquor for the weekend. I saw that they had a winter seasonal ale out, I had it last year, and I really wanted it. Almost to the point of going back to the store and getting it. I'd have one last hurrah, then hit the reset button back to sobriety. Then I realized it doesn't work that way. I can't say, "Oh, well, I just want some of this seasonal ale, then I'll get sober." I'll never have a good Bordeaux again, or another bottle of Moet and Chandon, or a boutique Spanish sherry. It's ok. I'd probably drink the whole thing and get snot-faced. I have faced temptation and fought it. I'd rather be sober. |
Good for you for resisting temptation! Every time you say 'no' to the demon, it gets easier. Sober is better. |
wakeup... it gets easier, it really does... Just keep that first step (or nonAA equivalent) current.... that yearning for that great new microbrew gets less and less, you enjoy sobriety more and more.... Mark |
Least & Cubile are right - once you see you really can resist, it isn't as hard the next time. I literally sat in front of the liquor store and argued with myself several times. I'd tell myself I didn't need it, that drinking wouldn't result in fun or relaxation, or anything good - and usually I was able to drive away. It's convincing ourselves that there will be no happy ending once we pick up - not any more. Those days are long gone for me, and most of us here. Good for you, WakeUp!! |
Why not put the cash you saved into a special box? Do that each time you resst the booe, It's good to watch it grow along with your self esteem, :yup: Let's both enjoy another day without alcohol  |
Hey wakeup, congrats on resisting the temptation!! One thing I have learned is that the reset button is so hard to push after I have said yes to drinking. I am still newly sober, but really want to be off that cycle of 'reset' buttons. Great job! |
:c014: way to go WakeUp! :) D |
How are you feeling today WakeUp? |
Good job -- one day at a time! :c011: And yes, it gets easier over time. |
