It gets easier
Hello any newly sober person out there. I am over 4 months sober and am looking forward to my first Christmas without a drink in 20 years. What I am here to tell you is that it gets easier after a length of time sober. A lot easier. The first few weeks is ok, the honeymoon period if you want to call it. For me, week 6 was a very tough one indeed. I felt like I was in mourning or had lost a limb or something. Basically it lasted for a week, until it reared its ugly head again soon after, although for not as long. A series of dreams of being very drunk, down and out left me feeling relieved and worried in equal measures when I woke up. The last time that happened was 2 weeks ago when I dreamed I was homeless and drinking in a bus shelter!!
Now I feel strong and positive. I hope you make the right decision to stop the madness and give yourself a chance.

Congratulations on your sober time! I have 70 days today and it does get easier.
This will be my first sober Christmas since high school. Needless to say, I am sure it will be interesting since all my relatives drink.

Hi eddie. Your post is great!! It is true, getting through the first few humps can be trying but it is all well worth it if you can fight through it. Hopefully others will find your post encouraging.
Thanks Eddie - Very true. It does get easier, yet we can't get complacent either. We're just one drink away.
I absolutely love a post by Boleo in another section:
Recovery feels good.

Thanks Eddie. I think SR needs some more positive posts about how remaining sober is worth the effort from people who have remained sober for a long time. So thanks for the post.
All the talk of xmas and New years eve at work and general xmas festivities has made me feel a bit Low this evening. Also the fact that I have been very unwell with a cold/flu hasn't helped either.

Thanks, great post! This will be my first sober xmas too...I still can't believe I am going to go through the holidays without drinking...but that is the plan...I'm hoping by the time I fly home (xmas eve) I will be stronger in my sobriety and breeze through the holidays.
