Just checking in

Neo's recent post has inspired me to check in with an update.

A friend asked me yesterday how many days it's been since I've been sober. I had to honestly stop and think, because I couldn't remember the exact number! (Today is Day #112). Just a few weeks ago, I could rattle off that number with no problem...I never thought the day would come so soon when I would have to stop and actually think about it.

I've gone from having strong cravings (especially on the weekends) to absoultely NO cravings at all. I find myself rarely even thinking about alcohol, let alone actually wishing for a taste.

It seems like I've had the key to recovery all along and just had to finally decide to use it.

If said it before and I'll say it again...if this 43 year-old can go from an average of 12-18 beers a day, every day, for several years - down to NONE in nearly four months, then I believe ANYBODY can do it.

I'm so grateful for finding this place and I just hope I can inspire others to keep trying and to never give up hope.

It can be done... I've done it many times in the past and it's a bit like giving up smoking... it's nearly 6 months since my last cigarette and smoking almost never crosses my mind... the thought of introducing poison into my body makes me shiver...

Same here with the ciggies. I quit 5 years ago this month and can't believe how I actually enjoyed sticking dried leaves in my mouth and lighting them lol :)

It really feels good not to want a drink. The improvement in my life in only three weeks is phenomenal. I can't imagine wanting to go back to the way it was.

Congrats on your sober time and thanks!
