lost

This is my first time here. I want to be and stay sober. Am I in the right forum? This is confusing to me.

I have been in recovery before. About 20 years ago. But I have lost it and can't seem to get it back.

Well, be welcome here. There's a lot of support and good people to help. I've been here only a couple of weeks and it's great.

The fact that you want your sobriety back, that's a great start!

hi wanttohave fun - you're in the right place

You'll find a lot of support here.

Coming back after a relapse can be tough...what method did you use for the 20 years?

I went to some meetings at first and learned to turn to the higher power. I prayed everyday and changed friends and did all the things or most anyway that were recommended. it began to change after a life threatening illness. the doctor gave me valium- pretty much an unlimited supply. it took a while but that was the path back to full blown drinking and using prescriptions. i shouldn't have listened to that doctor. i want my health back and i know i won't have it unless i stop completely. my family says i need to use just a little more willpower. they don't understand.

Welcome to SR, Wanttohavefun.

There's a lot of support here--for all, but especially those of us who don't have support in our regular lives. Some things another addict/alcoholic can understand better than those in our lives around us...

Best of luck.

Take care,
-TB
