Deal with swollen abdomen? How long does it last?

I had a huge binge over the weekend and now my belly is still swollen. I think after reading lots of info that I have alcohol induced Ascites. I'm limiting my salt, haven't had a drink since Monday, am taking OTC water pills to try to fix this ASAP. It's getting better, but my stomach and right side (I know... my liver) is sore and my belly is still swollen. I'm drinking lots of water and powerade (sugar free) and I am luckily urinating a lot and it is a light color. I'm a full size bigger right now. How long will it last? Any idea?

BTW, this has scared the bejesus out of me. I'm done drinking. Tuesday was my first day of sobriety. That's why I'm here. I'm done. I don't need to destroy my liver. I won't. Too many people depend on me and I love my life.

Thanks to anyone that has any answers. And I know you're going to say "go to the doctor". If I have to I will, but right now I'm looking for your knowledge. Thank you!

My cousin had to go to the hospital to have it drained. I think it is very serious.

None of us are doctors here CRJ ...it really is in your best interests to see a doctor in cases like this - please do.

Okay, I will.

I'm probably just imagining things and overreacting. I did eat a lot of lasagna & cheesecake too.

Nonetheless, too much booze - I'm done with it.

If your stomach is swollen you are not overreacting.

You need a professional opinion ...a blood test will give
you answers Please be honest with the doctor about
your drinking or the correct blood screening test
won't be done.

Come back from the doctors and let us know how you are
doing......be both sober and safe....

Well, it started on Saturday night and really didn't end until Tuesday. Anyway, just since I posted originally, I feel better and my belly is literally going down. I just put on my regular jeans and they are a little snug, but I couldn't barely put them on yesterday. No ER, doctor tomorrow if necessary.

Tests would be good. But I'm scared of the results.

Please don't minimize the seriousness of your condition. I used to see the doctor for back pain and lie about how much I drank. I'd abstain until the pain went away, then I'd pick up again. It's amazing how the disease tricked my mind into thinking I was cured and healthy.

So Astro, when did you quit and what did you find out was wrong with your liver, etc.? How long have you been sober?

I've been sober for over 4 years, many of our members have long-term recovery. I was diagnosed with elevated liver functions numerous times, and of course I thought I was so smart that I started diagnosing it myself. Found out I'm not much of a doctor The first time I had liver problems was at the age of 19. I didn't stop drinking until I was 41.

Please, see your doctor.

Some liver damage is reversible. Some is not.

I hope you see a doctor soon.
