Thumbs up TOPIC: Like Avocados We Bruise Easily. Do You?

Hi Im Sharon and Im an Alcoholic.

By the grace of HP and people
like you here in SR I havent
found it necessary to pick up
a drink of alcohol since 8-11-90.

For that and you I am truely
grateful.

Like Avocados we bruise easily.
Do you?

In recovery we have a chance to
take inventories of ourselves, our
lives, situations, people, places &
things.

Some of us r more sensitive to
others and we get our feeligs
hurt. Our egos get bruised.
Or in an abusive situation our
bodies get bruised. In marriages
or relationships, one or the other
gets a bruised heart.

And the biggie is alcohol and
drugs that bruise every ounce
of our beings, souls, minds.

I am one of those sensitive
people in recovery that has
has been bruised from one
or more things mentioned
above.

From physical and verbal
abuse it bruised my emotions
filling me with lots of fears.

Lost jobs due to the inability
to take orders from adult
authority bruised my ability
to hold on to a job.

A marriage of 25 yrs ended
but gave me strength to carry
on independantly on my own
but could have bruised my
relationship with family members.

Bruises can be healed in
ourselves with proper help
with recovery programs offered
to us.

With that Im not as badly bruised
inside or out like I use to be.

Are you a badly bruised Avocado?
How did you get bruised?

This avocado today is well ripped
and ready to be used to make a
great guacamoli dip.

Thank you for this post. It was beautifully done. I too bruise easily. Sensitivity is just one more thing that needs balance.

The avocado is well ripped

I don't know how to quote partial text.

In my job I deal with transcripts and typos and such. You should see some of the ones proofers found in my transcripts. I know you'll forgive me a fun pun on a typo.

Today this avocado is not going to get well ripped.

Thanks Mariechi.

Avocado's are pretty hard
when we get them. In time
they become ripe and useful.

Same for us in recovery.

Many if not all of us are hardened
over the yrs because of abuse
we have done to ourselves our
bodies.

I know i was harden for a long
time until i applied recovery to
my life.

It doesnt happen over time but
in sharing our experiences
strengths and hopes with others
it allows us to see that we are not
alone in this situation and that
we can overcome brusising and
hardness in ourselves.

It has taken me 19 yrs. of many
one days at a time in recovery
applying the principles and steps
to my everyday life to finally become
a ripe avocada.

Love the avacado analogy... We have he power to heal whether we realize it or not. I think that sensitivity is one of the reasons that compels some of us to pick up the bottle (etc.). Humbly on day 63 this time.

well, this is a thought provoking sentence. I think this is part of my problem with staying sober, I no longer feel like I do have the power to heal. I know that being too sensitive has certainly kept me drinking over the years, and I have developed a sense of helplessness that I hate. I used to consider myself strong and able to weather anything. Looking back now, I don't know if I was weathering so well, I think a lot of times I was stuffing feelings I didn't know how to deal with, some of which are still coming back now.

I was powerless for a many yrs before
and after entering recovery. As an infant
entering rehab then crawling before i
could walk with the steps provided to me,
I soon began to have some control back
in my life.

Control by applying the steps in my every
day life.

As long as I kept trying to do it my way
for so long, which was the wrong way,
I failed so many times.

I had to learn from many before me
by listening to them share their own
ESH of what it was like before during
and after drugs and alcohol usage
in their lives.

I do have the power now which is
called choices in my life whether to
drink or not.

Those choices will determine whether
I want to live, go crazy or die from my
own addiction.

Today I chose to live.
