One meeting down........
One meeting down........
Just back from me first meeting I was so nervous I drove past the place 8 times before pulling in. Im so glad I did. An amazingly supportive group , NO religious pressure or pressure of any kind. Many passed around a paper and gave me lots of cell numbers. I even went to a diner with 2 guys after. Heard lots of stories from heart wrenching to inspiring. Great great stuff
Well, I'm on my way

So you had a good experience with, was it AA? I'll be heading that way soon. A little apprehensive.
Thanks D I feel good. I feel really good. Ive consumed about a 12 pack a night for the past........oh 700 or so nights. Tonight I dont want to drink AT ALL. I feel FAAAAAAAAAAAAANTASTIC!
I am glad you found a good group. Keep coming here for support and keep going to AA.
For those thinking of trying AA, just do it. Don't get discouraged if your experience is not as positive as Rob's. There are a lot of groups out there, try different groups until you find one where you feel comfortable. AA rocks.

RobB1983 I always love it when I hear about some ones first meeting, 90% of the time most folks have good experiences for their first meeting.
Most folks are pleasantly surprised.
I have been to several thousand meetings in several states and have been to several conventions as well. I have never even had any one invite me to go to thier church or synagouge, to be honest the majority of folks I know in the rooms do not go to church at all, but some of them are spiritual giants none the less.
Knowiing what I know from first hand experience I kind of chuckle inside when I hear people say "No way I would go to AA, way to religous!" Heck the only person I know that is really religous in the rooms is a retired preacher who uses AA to stay sober. I have never heard him "Preach" any thing in the rooms or before or after meetings. I have heard him say that he wished the people in his old congregation had half of the spirituality that a lot of folks in AA have.
Keep going back, check out different meetings, I can assure you that you will find at least one you will not want to go back to, but I bet you will find more you like then you don't like.
I have noticed though that the more serious a person is about staying sober the more likely they are to find meetings to their liking.

Thanks man! Dont know if you saw it on the other thread, but I googled "First AA Meeting" on Wednesday AM. Your story came up and pushed me to go. Im about to go to bed without having had a drink today. That makes 2 days in a rown. I havent done two sober days in a row in at least 4 years.
Hi Rob1983,
Wow!! It's so exciting to hear how great your first AA Meeting went! I had a super awesome experience my first meeting too (even though I was scared to death to go) LOL. Hope you were given or got yourself a Big Book and have that to read in the meanwhile. It's an excellent book and will be an item you will always treasure! As my sponsor's husband always says..."Don't take the 1st drink, Read the Big Book and Keep comin' back". He has 20 years in the program!
Love Pancake xo
*PS There's a friday night meeting here on SR at 9:00 pm EST tomorrow. We'd love to have you join us if your not at a face 2 face meeting Rob! And...another one on Saturday afternoon at 5:00 pm EST. C'mon over to the Chat Room/Meeting Room and we'll see you there!
