Hello everyone. I just made an account yesterday and I am completely new to all of this. Yesterday I woke up and decided I should try to quit smoking marijuana. I have tried this a few times before only to find myself smoking resin or searching for scraps left around my house. I've also been drinking quite heavily every night and I'd like to stop that also. I have been a pretty heavy chronic smoker for about 4 years now and I see how pointless it is but it is very hard for me to stop. My entire social network revolves around smoking and drinking so that makes it alot harder for me to abstain from using. I'm just sick of living to get high instead of just enjoying myself like a normal person. I'd also like to be clean so I can join the military.

Hi Backpacker, I'm new to the system myself (on the alcoholic recovery), so I can't give you much guidance here. But I find ever attaboy helps. So here's mine.:c011:

Good for you. I have my own problems and a gf that I enable. The fact that you are admitting you have a problem is a first good step.

Hi Backpacker

Welcome to SR. You'll find a lot of support here.

I was a pot smoker and drinker too.
For me the first step was to stop smoking and drinking - everything else flowed from that. It took some changes tho, and not always easy ones.

I was in a fairly hard drinking, hard smoking crowd as well - I found I had to put my sobriety first and leave that crowd behind, as what I was doing was literally destroying my life.

The good news is I found the kind of life I wanted. I hope you do too :)
Hope to see you around some more

D
