Overwhelming,,,need to post

I can't make a meeting today, so I wanted to post as I am feeling very overwhelmed. BEing sober is not easy, because I now see all the crap that I need to clean up. HOw bad my relationships are. HOw my marriage is OVER. But I know the best and only thing I can do today is focus on my recover. I can not make any changes until I am healthy, so it gives me more of a incentive to work the plan.

I also feel physically awful, I just want to sleep. My husband is a weekend alcoholic and so the week long between binges he is just so mean to everyone in the house, angry, miserable. Then Friday comes and its BAR time, so is Saturday, Sunday recovery. But I have to put that aside and work on me.

Just for Today, I will be positive, in every area, I will stay sober, I will connect with my higher power.

For the next 24 hours, I wil stay sober, and work and only try and fix me.:praying:praying

One day at a time. It gets better. And remember, no matter how tough your current situation is "This Too Shall Pass".

Hi Ladyb,

You're right, it's not always easy, but you can get through this.

mariechi 09-22-2009 11:32 AM

Go girl

I'm in the same awful place of seeing how my drinking has been so damaging to those around me as well as myself. I can't believe I hadn't seen it before. I've had my wake-up call and lost my job. There is no way to change the past however much we beat ourselves up. We make amends where we can. But we have to forgive ourselves first and hope that others will forgive. If they forgive us and we don't, nothing will change.

Hi Lady. You know what has to be done, and that's the good news. I had a similar situation and made it through - but I kept falling back on drinking because I couldn't face the pain, or the truth about what my life had become. You're not doing that, so be proud.

You have a good attitude. You'll be alright, I'm sure.

coffeenut 09-22-2009 07:16 PM

Yes....getting sober is tough. Being a drunk is bad times 10.

You're right....work on YOU. You CAN do this. You Can.

TheLadyb 09-24-2009 05:53 AM

Thanks for the encouragement.
i don't see it in myself sometimes, it is nice when it is pointed out
Day 4, hitting an AA meeting today.

Keep the attitude of gratitude LadyB. While you are at that AA meeting ask for some ladies phone numbers, I can attest to the value of getting in the habit of clling folks in the fellowship every day even if it is to just say hi and ask how one is doing.

The closest I ever came to relapsing was when I had about 2 months sober, if a drink had of been there I would have drank it, but instead of going and buying something to drink I called one of the guys I had been talking to every couple of days.

I told him what was going on, we spoke for maybe 5 minutes and I was just fine. What did he say? Heck I do not know, the only thing I do know is he knew how I was feeling, he too had been there before and he had not drank because he called some one.

I tell every sponsee right off the bat "Call me before you have the drink, not after!" Well I did get a few calls, but none of my sponsee's (knock on wood) has relapsed yet. One has over 2 years sober and the other 2 have almost 18 months.

TheLadyb 09-24-2009 10:33 AM

Tazman,

Got some numbers today and made a pledge to call 2 of them before I drink.....
The AA meeting was very helpful today.

Thanks to everyone here for all the help

right on! aa meeting have saved my butt in the past and they will do the same for you too. aa is there to pick your a** up and put it back on when it falls off. all you can do is what you are doing, work on yourself and give the rest to your higher power. there not a better feeling in the world than knowning that you did the action necessary and that the rest will work itself out. FAITH!!!:lightbulb
