Went close

I have been in Indonesia and Malaysia the last 2 weeks, hitting meetings whenever possible and have not even thought about the grog.
Its my last night before I fly home and out of blue I just got hit by a massive craving (first time in months)
The old mind started telling me its been a successful trip, its your last night, come on lets party.
Anyways called my sponsor, woke them up, had a good chat took a few deep breaths and am feeling better and know I wont drink.
Going to go buy some chocolate instead

Good deal, that is what it is all about, one alcoholic helping another alcoholic. I bet you are looking forward to getting home.

Thanks Taz, it was touch and go for 5 minutes though mate, I played the tape through to my sponsor and knew it would end an all nighter and all day tomorrow then same on the flight home. The comment back was "dont be stupid they wont let you on the plane" We both had a good laugh.
Yeah cant wait to get home, 2 weeks of hotels and booze everywhere is more than enough, plus I heard my dog has been miserable since I left

I think it is our subconscious mind that likes to allow us to think..."just one" after doing good for awhile. Its like a reward type of thing I think.
I know I have done that alot. Do real good for awhile or have a good time somewhere. And that AV wants to say..Well you deserve to let loose one time.
We all know where one time will lead us.
Great job on reaching out. Especially being away like that.
Your doing good. Have a safe trip and keep on doing your thing.

Glad you made it through, Marty. Gave me food for thought. The alcohol monster is ALWAYS lurking, isn't it?

I agree with Aysha - many counselors and people will tell you to be weary of those stressful frustrating times in recovery (and they are right), but after 6 months of sobriety in 2008 I relapsed because I felt good and victorious at home and at work. I think we have to be just as careful with our celebratory feelings during recovery as our stressed out angry ones.

Oh, by the way, very good will power calling your sponsor - always call your sponsor! :-)

The drunken devil on my shoulder HATES when I play the tape through haha.
Last weekend he said "Just have a beer, no one is home, they wont know"
and I said "One? When have I ever enjoyed one?"
and he said "you deserve it, your coming on 9 months"
and I said "ya, and tomorrow could be day one. I think I better look into this AA stuff soon."

He shut up.

get home safe <3
