I'm new here. I found this site yesterday -- on day one of my recovery. I'm so glad I found you guys!
I'm now starting day two sans alcohol. So far it has been fairly easy. Like most of you, I've tried kicking many, many times only to fall back into the bottle time and time again.
I've always been able to remain sober for two to three weeks at a time. There's something about that third week that gets me everytime. This time, though, I got serious and asked a Dr. to put me on Antabuse. I took it for the first time yesterday, and I must say that I feel somewhat liberated. The antabuse takes away the option -- there's no internal debate because the option to drink is off the table.
Hopefully, with the meds and support from this wonderful group, I can stay sober this time. I look forward to any advice or insight. And thank you for this awesome site!

You were looking for websites on day one of sobriety? Just kidding, sorry, welcome GoFish. 2-3 weeks sober at a time would be a miracle from me. So I guess I'll just hand over the bottle...
Might as well start with why you're stealing my bottle...
RC, you're right about the info here, but where in TN?

LOL! Thirty, those two to three weeks have been few and far between. The world just isn't right without my eighteen-beer nightcap.
RC, I've been told that it gets easier after month three. Is this accurate??

Gofish I strongly suggest you read the label on your bottle of antabuse, it says on there that it is effective if it is taken in conjunction with a recovery program and or therapy. I know more then one alcoholic who has done one of 2 things when taking antabuse:
1. Stop taking it and start drinking again.
2. Drank while taking antabuse, some got deathly ill, others just drank right through it.
I would suggest you check out some long term recovery program like AA, SMART or the like. You say you have stayed sober for 2 or 3 weeks and went right back to drinking, what is going to stop you from quitting the antabuse in 2-3 weeks and drinking again.
Antabuse only works if you make the decision to take it daily and you can only take it so long. Trust me the key to long term sobriety is not to be found in pill form, if it was alcoholism would not be a problem.

Good that you found this site - I took ant-abuse for a couple of months many years ago & it seemed to work miracles at the time. I didn't follow through with any recovery group and fell back on old habits rather quickly after I quit taking it. I am now 6 years later, and just now getting into the AA meetings - and on my 8th day of sobriety. Having the support has been a tremendous help to me on this site & now at meetings - even though I am a newbie too. Good luck and welcome.

Hey Ho and welcome, Not only do you have antabuse and meds but you also
have a support network here at SR. I am new here but it helps tremendously
to be reminded that you will never be alone again.
