Booze vs. Food---$$$

Just wanted to share a thought....just got back from the grocery store, spent $42.......a normal beer and wine run cost........all on fruit, veggies, water, juices, stuff! It felt good sitting here on day 4.....did not even care about the wine isle.......it was empowering.

There is hope for me afterall.

Hugs

I used to feel really empowered when I'd walk by the liquor aisles and literally flip em off. Now I don't shop where there's liquor so there's no need for it lol..

Great start, glad you're feeling so positive!

It's amazing how much money we can waste on alcohol. Do the math...let's say you go out every four days and spend 42 bucks on alcohol. For some that may be conservative and for others perhaps not so. It all depends on the individual. Anyway, 42 bucks every four days for a year comes out to buying alcohol somewhere around 91 times per year. So 42 X 91= $3,822.00. A tidy sum. Now think what else you could do with all that extra money.

Way to go VC, its a beautiful thing isn't it?

The amount I spent on my drinking is absolutely insane, especially at expensive bars & restaurants. I would wake up in the morning with a $300 or more bill in my wallet & not even remember where I was the night before or how I got home (not driving but cabbing it or walking). Freaking scary.

So happy to hear that you are feeling well.

Take Care,

NB

I was spending about 250-300 bucks a month on booze (including cokes to mix with, cab rides etc)

I think my 40 bucks a week meetings are expensive but I'm actually spending less.

Wonderful. Congrads....
I will not drink anymore, will not go there again, no more "yets" in me. I'm done, had it, unbelievable, have been moving forward, I just got no more in me. Finished!
Now Satan, Demon, R U listening, get out of my head. You will not win.

Well over $100 a week on alcohol. My grocery bills are consistently under $30 a week, mostly vegetables, meats, stuff like that. Don't really like processed stuff, or drink much more than water and lemonade, so it's cheaper. Yeah, once I get money I'm going to have a whole lot more of it staying sober.

There were times when I made a choice, a 6 pack and a gallon of milk or a 12 pack and no milk, I had the wife buy the milk because I forgot it!!!!!

good luck on continuing down the right path. I know I spent way too much on booze myself and like you I hope I've broken that habbit.

Good for you VC! Keep up that positive attitude life can keep getting better and better! When I stopped drinking I had over $20,000 in credit card debt not necessarily from buying alcohol just making a lot of bad choices (like ebay while drinking); I am now COMPLETELY credit card debt FREE! I make about the same amount of $ I did then I just make a whole lot better decisions now.

Reading this thread I just did some quick math. I figure my husband and I spend about $7,000 a year on drinking. Gosh, that looks terrible when you put it in writing! Add at least another $1,000 for his smoking. $8,000 a year just for the "pleasure" of killing ourselves slowly.

The more I read threads on SR the more I am becoming committed to stopping this madness.
