Newcomer Firechic241 is afraid of what's to come
Today is my first day of sobriety and it sucks. First I couldn't sleep. I kept waking up to cold sweats. I was literally covered in sweat; like gross dripping off my fingers. Then I was freezing because I was so wet. I feel wired out even though I haven't done anything today. I have extreme anxiety today and I can't seem to sit still. My bones ache and my stomach cramps make me double over. I am afraid today is only the beginning of whats to come with my opiate addiction. I can only hope I don't float away. In the last 6 months I lost 20 lbs due to drug use. This is not healthy at all. I can tell it's aging me faster. I just went from working 6 days a week to one so that's help me stop my drug use in it's tracks. I think I was smart enough to stop before it gets really bad. I need to stop now before my liver gives out. I'm just scared about not being able to handle these withdrawls and go back to using.

Hello firechic, and welcome to SR. In the weeks ahead I hope we'll hear more from you as you detox and progress in your recovery.
But please, consult a doctor about detoxing safely and get yourself to a hospital if you're unsure about how you're feeling, detoxing is dangerous and can be deadly. None of us would recommend trying to do it alone.
Please take some time to read this http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...at-we-did.html

Hi firechic - I responded to you on another thread.
I agree with Astro. I know it is really difficult asking for medical help, but
I hope you do. It could be a start to a wonderful journey in recovery.
I'm thinking about you and hope to get to know you better.

Welcome to SoberRecovery firechic241.
It took me a good wile to come off the stuff I was hooked on. I just remember saying to myself: I can't go on like this and its time to make some changes. I say stick with your commitment, I did and it has saved me from plenty of misery.

Congrats on day 1 that is where it all starts. Keep posting about your withdrawls so that you will have something to reference the next time that you consider using.
Take care & try to make it to a doctors office so that they are aware of what is going on.
All of the best in your recovery.

You will find lots of support here. Take it slow. Drink plenty of fluids, H2O, juices, eat small meals to nourish the body and mind. Take it an hour at a time if need be. Call AA, get 800# and ask to talk with someone or have someone come over. Go to the ER if need be, that too. Just hang on, stay strong. Keep coming back here, read everything, take a cold shower, hell it sure is hot here, pamper yourself.

Welcome firechic. Yeah, the withdrawals are not fun (I was there a few days ago) but once they're over you feel new again. Or something. Either way, it's less pain than the withdrawals or using/drinking. Just gotta get through them.
I agree with absolutely everybody who posted. Especially with reference to a doctor. I have been through withdrawals both ways, and there were a lot of physical things I didn't know about when I did it without medicine.
Eat plenty, lots and lots of water, and oh, don't get caught up in the emotional rollercoaster that's coming. Just post here. Most everybody will understand. But after all that, it gets WAY better. And that day's not too far away for you, so stay in there!

Hello and welcome to the SR community.
Thank you for choosing to seek a clean & sober life.
Have you considered attending A.A. or N.A. meetings?
Do you have a plan for how you will stay sober each day?

Welcome to SR Firechic, Seeing a doctor would be a very good idea, I tried hundred of times to quit drinking alone and always wound up drinking again, doing it alone is a bear!!! I finally was able to stay sober by going to AA and finding not only the experience, strangth and hope I needed from other recovered alcoholics but also a program that led me to freedom, peace, and serenity.
Just wanted to give a little reassurance... if opiates are what you're withdrawing from, not alcohol or benzos, you're feeling really bad (obviously) but opiate withdrawal can't kill you. Alcohol/benzo withdrawal can. However the doc can help make you more comfortable cause I know it's really really miserable
Just think though... when it's done, you never have to do it again.
