8 hours strong

I know it doesn't sound like much but it's been a long time since I have gone that long without drinking. I feel like a truck backed over me. Really tired. Does anyone know if a sleeping pill would be appropriate on the night of day one? Just curious...figured it would help.

Movies are helping today.....having some chills but nothing major yet.

Why would you want a sleeping pill if you're really tired VC?
I think it's always best to check with your doctor about med questions anyway

i have the opposite problem you have most of the time....i sleep too much. have you thought about taking a hot bath to relax you or drinking hot tea. i generally read in bed until i'm too sleepy.
since you are detoxing, it sounds risky to put any kind of substance like that in your body. just an opinion.....i feel for you. i understand about the mind racing thing.
sending you the sleep fairies VC....hope you have sweet dreams tonite.

I know, I've only got nine days, but I had that same problem the first few nights. I would just lay down with the lights out and close my eyes wide awake. It only worked for an hour or two before I thought I would go crazy, but I hoped it would give my body enough time to be ready for the next day. The next day I felt horrible all day, but that night I started sleeping/resting for three or four hours at a time. All the first week I could only sleep a few hours a night, I just tried to make sure I was as inactive as possible for about eight. It's not the same as sleep, but it was the best I could do, and I was able to be awake and alert enough to pull off what I had to do in the daytime. Last night I had my first full night's sleep. I don't know if that will continue, but I hope.

I don't know if that helps.

Sleep disruption is pretty normal in the early days. I just went with it - I managed ok - but I know thats not everyone's choice.

Like I say, always good to put your doctor in the picture.

Hopefully VC is sleeping right now

I remember when I was in rehab
back in August of 1990 for 28
days there was a routine they
had all of us on.

We were up earlie each morning
with them checking vital signs
and handing out meds if needed.

Me, i was grateful i didnt have
to take anything.

Then we had early morning stretching,
to a good healthy breakfast, to
morning group, to daily activities
which included swimming, bad mitten,
jogging, chilling out watching tv.

A wide variety of activities to keep
us going when we reallly wanted
to just chill out.

It was a controlled inviroment
which was great because i
couldnt do what i wanted to do
which was to drink and sleep.

At the end of each day i was
exhausted and dont recall
having trouble sleeping.

Today, almost 19 yrs sober,
I still try to follow what works
for me to stay sober and healthy.

Sometimes the simpliest things
work.

It will get better. I just finished telling someone else about herbal teas to help relax worked well for me. Try Celestial Seasonings Tension Tamer or Sleepytime, they taste nice and really helped me.
hope last night went okay for you! I found one night I would be wide awake, then next i'd sleep really good, then the next night back to being wide awake....
I will get better though!

It might have been you that told me about the tea. Mine is "Get some ZZZZ's" by The Republic of Tea. THanks for the tip, I forgot I had it.

Sleep is indeed precious.

For me, it is exercise during the day that induces sleep at night.
