Thanks to the Community!
I'm new. Just signed up today. Really just wanted to say hello to all and thanks -- because of this site and the encouraging and uplifting people who dwell here, I was able to say no to a drink tonight.
Following last night's all too common fit of over intoxication, I spent the entire day searching online for something, some kind of help or advice, in the full knowledge that my problem drinking has morphed into a complete nightmare and I just don't know how to wake up.
Reading the community threads and all the support you lend one another has helped this girl have a sober day. So thanks to all of you.

Welcome to SR Karen, congrats on your decision to stay sober. Take it one day at a time, do not even worry about staying sober tomorrow, just stay focused on staying sober on the day you are in.

Hi Karen - that's exactly how I felt too. When I came staggering in the door at SR I was a wreck. I wasn't even looking for a support group, but info. on the effects of longterm alcohol abuse. I'll never understand why SR popped up - but when I started reading I could not stop & now have resided here for almost 2 yrs. I don't know what would happen if I stopped visiting & I don't want to find out.
I'm so glad you're here with us. I wish you a wonderful new life.

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody! I couldn't agree more about approaching things one day at a time. That was one of the most important messages I received here yesterday. Not time to climb the mountain, not all at once, just being in the moment and living it right for today felt like a success.
Still cloudy headed from the other night, but I feel better -- confident that I can make it through another day. Here's to day 2 and if I can muster up the strength, hoping to join the August class 2009 thread.
