just a bit of a moan... and question...
 

hello...... was just looking on someones input maybe that has had a similar experience.... been sober exactly one month and it's going quite well..... it's been real hard, but physically it has got a bit easier over the last week..... then bam! out of the blue i had 2 seizures yesterday- i don't remember much of it.... woke in hospital as i was fitting for 10 minutes one time and no one knew what to do...
i thought i was over the physical hump.... i kinda wanna get back into doing stuff but feel a bit apprehensive now... hummmmmmmdededummm

Interesting. I would think after that long you would be over the physical symptoms too. Maybe someone that has more experience being sober could help you out more.

Ask your Doctor. Get a referral to a Neurologist and get a brain scan done.

Seizures can be very serious and may not be the after affects of detoxing.

Please see your Dr to get all the information you can.

Also please let us know what your Dr says.

indeed thought it was the first week whilst detoxing that was high risk- i would have to do it different hehehehe!

ps i havent started AA yet not sure its for me.. but im doing well.

See a doctor, I am not one, but I have never heard of one a month out due to withdrawals. Please let us know how you are doing.

yeah i've been to AandE they said its maybe delayed effects of my detox... after a month?!?! well anyway i have some benzo's seems to have calmed for now, thanks.... they also said it may have been a combination of meds they gave me... (they admitted they had made a mistake) oops!
getting cabin fever as i'm not doing much- need to rest.... eeeeeerk.

yes i didnt think a seizure 1 month sober was normal.... silly silly doctors, they sent me home after the first one only for me to go straight into having another iiiiiiiiiidiots!
then they uncovered they shouldn't have prescribed two things i'm on together.... ah my faith in doctors is depleting at an alarming rate.

Seizures for whatever reason are serious stuff.

You can have alcohol withdrawal related seizures a month after quitting. It is not a typical reaction, but it is not unheard of. Generally, if you have medical help detoxing, you have a lower risk of seizures from alcoholic withdrawal because it is less of a shock to your system, but I think even then there's no guarantee. At least that's how I understand it from the doctors I've spoken with.

You should probably check with your GP. I'm not sure much can be done about it now, although a mild anti-convulsive might be prescribed.

Sorry you had to go through that. It must have been frightening. Hope that it's all done and you continue to heal.

ive heard of it before but rarely..

mine range from day 3 to day 8.

its a medical issue that needs addressing.....

i still have the edge of my tougue missing from one.

what did the hospital say?...

hello people... thanks for all your responses!

heads a bit more together now my posts above didn't really explain very clear as i was kinda in the middle of it...

hospital basically sent me away.. said it was withdrawal (no really?!)...said i wasnt high risk to keep in.... this was very unfair i feel... (sending me home unmedicated anyway wtf?)....
so i went straight to my doctor on the way home.... and explained what had happened- she thought i was just after more benzo's (as is aware of my addictive personality etc. etc- i really was NOT) so she sent me home also saying she thought it must just be a freak occurrence thing as i had been ok for weeks two and three after quitting so thought i'd be fine...

as soon as i got home went into another fit.. at which point my friend phoned his friend who is a pharmacist- told him the combination of things i am on... at which point alarm bells were ringing... apparently you are not supposed to start on a drug i am on for cravings in close proximity with chlordiazepoxide and he was sure this is what caused the seizures not anything to do with withdrawal... i totally agree, as does my doctor after i told her haha!!.. she put straight me back on a mini script of benzo's again and convulsions etc stopped.... phew!
how the hospital could not uncover this is beyond me as they also had this list of medications...
so in conclusion -thanks to my friend all was fine.

well that was all a bit long winded i sure can ramble ;)

yeah trucker you're right they said it can happen through withdrawal very late on but only ridiculously rarely..... and i hear you on the tongue thing i bit out the edge of my lip... oooches!
